bridge closed

From Monday, 1 July Mill Road bridge will be closed to motor vehicles for around two months.  This is to enable works are completed on the railway, the train line and the Chisholm Trail.

At our first meeting Govia Thameslink told us that this will be a complete closure and Cllr. Dave Baigent told them in no uncertain terms that they would have to provide at least pedestrian access.

Following local campaigning efforts, Govia Thameslink and Network Rail have agreed to maintain access for pedestrians (and wheeled cycles) for most of the closure, but there will be some short periods of time when this temporary footbridge will also be closed. Stagecoach has committed to continuing bus services, with shuttle buses serving the areas on each side of the closed bridge. Details are still to be confirmed; we will update members when we know more.
