Ben Cartwright for Abbey
City Candidate for Abbey
I’m Ben and I am standing as the Labour candidate for Abbey in the upcoming City Council Elections.
I moved to Cambridge to study history and politics at Cambridge University. I have since worked as a community organiser with the Student Community Campaign initiative, where I provide pastoral support to elderly residents in the city. I have also served as the campaigns officer for the University Amnesty International Society, where I worked to raise awareness around the Sudanese humanitarian crisis.
Since coming to Cambridge, I have come to call it my home. By engaging with local residents as a Labour campaigner on the doorstep, I have become acutely aware of many of the issues affecting residents across the city and within Abbey, from housing, to transport, to reducing our carbon footprint.
If elected, I will seek to build on Cambridge Labour’s environmental and anti-poverty work across the city to benefit residents of Abbey, whilst ensuring their wider interests are represented. I will also seek to be an active voice in the community, holding regular meetings and consultations to ensure that residents interests are heard.
I got involved in politics because of hope. It is very difficult for many people now, but I will do my utmost to ensure that the interests of our residents are represented, and that a better life can be made possible for people across Abbey and across the city.
