Labour councillors have joined with residents across Cambridge in expressing their shock and sadness at the news that a 17-year old boy was stabbed to death yesterday afternoon on Logan’s Meadow, in what appears to have been a targeted attack.

Leader of Cambridge City Council, Cllr. Anna Smith, sent her condolences to the victim’s family;

“Our whole city will be feeling a real sense of shock and grief at this terrible news. It’s not something we expect to happen here in Cambridge, and my heart really goes out to the victim’s family and his friends, and all those who will be affected.”

Cllr. Alice Gilderdale, Executive Councillor for Recovery, Employment and Community Safety echoed those words;

“This is such a sad and shocking loss of a young life, and my thoughts – all our thoughts – are with the victim’s family and friends. I know that our community safety and open spaces teams have been assisting the police with any information they need, and will continue to do whatever is needed. We would urge anyone who thinks they may have any information about the incident to contact the police by phoning 101.”

Logan’s Meadow is one of the open spaces owned and managed by the city council, and will remain closed while the investigation continues. Reports have now come in that three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the incident, and remain in police custody.
