Newnham Labour held a successful workshop to discuss how bus services in Newnham, West Cambridge and the wider area can be improved.
32 people attended the meeting at St Mark’s Community Centre on a cold January evening, and were treated to a lively event, including a bus quiz, a Q&A, and a brainstorming session.
We were fortunate to be joined by the Deputy Mayor of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, Anna Smith, who answered residents’ questions. And described potential upcoming changes to local bus services and the proposed raising of the mayoral precept to fund new and improved services.
Attendees raised a wide range of improvements they would like to see, including more effective, easier to find information about buses, both online and at stops, room for bikes on buses, and more reliable and more frequent services, particularly at peak times. There was also support for a franchised network across the region.
Feedback from the event was submitted to the Combined Authority’s Better Buses consultation.
