The Labour City Council knows that there is a desperate need for new council housing in Cambridge, with plans to build nearly 550 new homes by 2022. But we want to take full advantage of our new-found power to borrow against our existing housing stock to build even more new council homes over the next decade.
To fulfil that ambition we need to look at sites across the city which may be suitable for development.
It is the case that we are looking at purchasing a site at Fen Road as part of a possible future council housing scheme.
However, there are no plans to include the green space as part of any possible scheme for housing contrary to claims made in a petition started by Lib Dem County Cllr Ian Manning.
Instead of spreading rumours, Cambridge Lib Dems should instead welcome the possibility of new council houses in East Chesterton, allowing more people to continue living and working in our city.
