The Labour city council has won over £700,000 worth of Government funding to help reduce the carbon emissions of the Abbey Leisure Complex at Pool Way.

The grant award will go towards a project to install a range of green measures including ground source heat pumps, a form of renewal energy, to help heat the building and the pools.

It is estimated that these improvements will save 525 Megawatts of power and 108 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

Installation work will begin shortly and is scheduled to be completed in the autumn.
