Many  residents are approaching Labour Councillors about Residents’ Parking for the Hurst Park Estate and Elizabeth Triangle (Springfield Road to Hawthorn Way, bordered by Elizabeth Way/Milton Road /Chesterton Road).

In the short term this has been triggered by Residents’ Parking in the Ascham area. Commuter parking has moved into the areas without Residents’ Parking schemes because of the slow progress by their County Councillor in addressing the challenges .

We are being asked if there could be one scheme for the whole area as proposed by County Councillor Jocelynne Scutt in 2017 – Ascham, Hurst Park Estate and Elizabeth Triangle. This was proposed by Jocelynne as she recognised the interdependencies of the areas and also the loss of parking when Milton Road is re-developed.

This was the policy of Jocelynne Scutt and Kelley Green, Labour’s candidates for the County Council election in 2017. Following the election, when Kelley was not elected, the County Councillor for Hurst Park Estate and Elizabeth Triangle decided to delay to consider further.

However,  Ascham residents responded to the County Council’s consultation with a majority in favour. That meant that the County was required to act under its policy, implementing the scheme for Ascham.

City Councillor Mike Sargeant secured the agreement from the relevant City / County Council Committee on 27th November 2018 that Elizabeth Triangle could join with Ascham if there was support from residents in these areas individually and if the councillors for Elizabeth worked speedily. County Councillor for Ascham, Jocelynne Scutt did ask the County Council shortly after the meeting to consult the residents of Ascham. However, this was dependent on the County Councillor for Elizabeth saying that  Elizabeth residents  have an interest in joining with Ascham. It is only recently that he has started to move forward.

It is  now  apparent that there is growing support  in Hurst Park Estate and Elizabeth Triangle for a scheme joining the 3 areas. Ascham residents views will also be taken into account.

We will support whatever residents from each of the 3 areas decide. Please let us know your views
