“As long as I have been knocking on doors along Milton Road and adjoining streets, people have been crying out for a decent bus service on Milton Road” says West Chesterton City Councillor Mike Sargeant.
“We’ve had so many changes over the years, none of which have offered residents the assurance that they would have a reliable frequent bus service that they would want to use”
Mike as Public Transport Lead Councillor at Cambridge City Council has had many discussion with Stagecoach management. He has put forward the case for better buses on Milton Road—one of the very few main roads in Cambridge that doesn’t have regular bus services.
He recently met with local residents at the Union Lane bus stop to see the hourly Guided Bus D pull up followed shortly afterwards by the Stagecoach 9. Residents were stressing that there wouldn’t be another bus for nearly an hour while Guided Bus A and Milton Park and Ride buses sail straight past often with very few passengers.
King’s Hedges City Councillor Alex Collis has faced the same sort of comments further up Milton Road. “Residents have worked really hard” says Alex “to come up with proposals to improve bus and cycle provision along Milton Road. They need to see the benefit as much as anyone else.”
