I’m Mairéad Healy, originally from the bogside in Derry, Northern Ireland but I left 20 years ago, to study law in the UK. Since then, I have moved around a bit, before settling in Cambridge. Starting off my career working for the European Commission in Brussels, then working in human rights in London with Gypsy and Traveller communities before making a career change and moving to Dublin to lead an award-winning national youth charity for several years. After that, I moved to the south of England where I was Chief Executive of a youth mental health Service. I was also appointed to the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales by the previous Prime Minister, a role I recently stepped down from. Currently, I work for a major international human rights organisation where I am part of the leadership team. I am also a postgrad student at Cambridge, training to be a child therapist.

Since being elected as a councillor in May 2021, I have been very engaged in issues around equality and also health and well-being which are two of my particular areas of interest. I initiated a motion passed unanimously at full Council shortly after my election in solidarity with Gypsy and Traveller communities in relation to the Policing Bill and have been engaging on a variety of other equality themes including working with officers on our single equality scheme which was passed before Christmas. I have also been involved in local campaigns in Romsey including to bring back restrictions on Mill Rd bridge to improve safety for our residents and the campaign by local residents to continue restrictions on vinery way  at school drop off times, to make it safer for local school children.

I have also taken on a number of roles including my appointment as Chair of Environment and Communities scrutiny committee, and lead councillor for Equalities and Lead Councillor for Health and Wellbeing and have been appointed as a governor of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. I am also the joint media/comms officer for Labour group and Cambridge CLP safeguarding officer.
