Sarah Baigent for Castle
City Candidate for Castle
If elected I would bring a wide range of experiences to the role as a city councillor. First, I can draw from my life experiences which, when I was first married in the 1980’s, was one of hardship and struggle. I had four children and three part-time jobs and found myself on the poverty line trying to keep my head above water. Sometimes I failed.
As my youngest reached 12, I went to university as a mature student. Beginning on a foundation degree, I ended up with a PhD in the social sciences. Politics has grown to be a passion and engrained in my everyday life. This means that I come into contact with a lots of different people, feeling a real connection with their struggles and successes.
From – people who may not know where the next meal is coming from, differential consequences of Covid fallout, worry about survival and Green agendas and pensioners concerns to challenges facing those living in substandard rented accommodation – these are very real difficulties facing the people of Cambridge. The alleviation of poverty is at the heart of these and my concerns.
I truly believe Cambridge Labour has much to offer in continuing their political objectives in the City. So, now I am standing up to be counted and want to invest my time to become your political advocate. If you were to provide me with an opportunity to represent you, I will work tirelessly to listen to your concerns, be a voice for Castle and find ways to build closer bonds of community identity together.
Castle has recognised the importance of Labour for residents and the community as a whole in the General Election. My Labour candidacy presents Castle with a chance to be represented at City Council level with a city councillor who has direct experience of what it is to struggle, and to reach out to help others. What becomes important at this time is to build on what has been established and push forward on a variety of social and economic agendas to ensure better living standards for all. I will represent your voices and make a difference if you lend me your vote in this upcoming election.
