James Youd for Market
City Candidate for Market
I was born and grew up in Cambridge, working as a gardener until several years ago when I became a full-time carer to my late partner Joanna, who sadly died of cancer last July.
As a Unite branch secretary and having previously worked in the Coalition of Resistance, I am a seasoned campaigner and strong socialist. I’ve campaigned in Cambridge for council housing and against the austerity agenda which has starved local authorities of funding and wreaked havoc on councils and the services they provide.
I’m standing in Market Ward for Labour because I believe we have proved over the past 7 years how effective we can be in delivery – desperately needed council housing, a strategy to combat homelessness and to working to ensure our environment is protected for the next generation.
I will work to make sure that Market gets its fair share of the 10k trees the Labour run City Council are planting. Only Labour councillors can govern in the interests of all our citizens, meeting the main task of the next few years, which is to ensure that Cambridge is rebalanced and does not remain the most unequal city in Britain.
