City Councillor for Cherry Hinton Ward
Councillor Dryden has served continuously on the City Council since May, 1995, representing Cherry Hinton Ward. He has lived in Cambridge for more than 60 years and attended Cambridge schools.
During his time on the Council, he has taken particular interest in Planning and in Community Development and Leisure.
He served three times as Mayor in 2004/05, 2006/07 and 2015/16 and as Deputy Mayor in 2005/06 and 2014/15. Prior to this, he accompanied successive mayors at civic ceremonial events as a Ceremonial Bailiff from 1997 onwards.
He is married to Sandra, now retired and previously worked at the Rosie Maternity Hospital for 22 years and they have four children.
Councillor Dryden was a Governor of the Spinney School, Cherry Hinton, for 13 years. He worked for the National Health Service for over 18 years and served for four years on the Community Health Council.
He is a Trustee and President of the Fulbourn Hospital Sports and Social Club, a facility which is now open to the wider community. He is also a Magistrate, and a Member of the Royal British Legion.
For 50 years he has held membership of the trade union now known as Unite the Union.
Councillor Dryden’s leisure interests include watching sport, clay-pigeon shooting, music and foreign holidays.
