September 2014

Labour City Council and East Area Committee are pleased to announce a new Pre-school provision at Ross Street Community Centre Romsey run by Romsey Mill

Following a selection process, additional pre-school provision will be available in Romsey from early next year.

Romsey Mill will be the provider of the pre school nursery provision at the extended Ross St Community Centre. This will enable much needed additional nursery/pre-school places to be provided by an organisation that has achieved excellent OFSTED ratings.

It is envisaged that the new provision will be up and running early in 2015 subject to building work, and OFSTED registration being completed on schedule by the providers.

Anyone wishing to find out more about the pre-school provision at either location should contact Ross St Community centre, Hemingford Rd, Cambridge CB1 3BZ. Tel 01223566102

JUNE 2014

The Labour Controlled East Area Committee has recently approved funding for a refurbishment of Ross St CC, is pleased that the Technical Services team in Arts and Recreation are putting together the specification for the building and inviting companies to submit bids to carry out the work.  The refurbishment includes space for an early years provider to run a childcare facility at the centre.

Cambridge City Council are currently working with the County Council on the selection process for a provider for the service and it is planned that this process should be completed by the end of July. This will give adequate time for a new provider to gain OFSTED registration for the service.

As improving childcare provision was one of Dave Baigent’s pledges in his personal manifesto for Romsey, he too is very pleased that with Zoe they will now be able to ensure this project receives priority.

Regular updates will be provided on estimated times that this service should go online.

MAY 2014

It was great to witness the effective doubling of funding for improvements at the Ross Street Community Centre in February of the Labour controlled East Area Committee.  This will bring new pre-school places as well as other improvements.
Plans are now underway to consult the community about the way the improvements will be done.

Dave Baigent Romsey Labour Candidate for the City Elections is really pleased that this initiative to increase help for parents is finally underway.

See letter below from Caroline Biggs.

Dear All

You may have thought that Ross Street Community Centre has been a quiet for a while, but that has been because we have been hatching exciting plans.

Due to growing demand for pre-school places in the Romsey area we are delighted to inform you that the Centre is getting a ‘make over’ to create space for a pre-school as well as improving and enhancing facilities , rooms and providing a new entrance area  for current users and new groups in the future
We are really excited about this and can’t wait to show off the new and improved Ross Street Community Centre in the near future.
Before that happens we would like to let you have a look at the draft plans so you can feedback any thoughts / comments before the specification is finalised .
If you would like to drop in to see the plans it would be great to see
you.  I will be around 11am  – 2pm on 20th May, and I am very happy to arrange other times to chat to people.  Day or evening.
We will keep users and neighbours up to date on the plans and timescales as and when we have more detail
