The people’s Mayor (Gerri Bird) went with 500+ OAP’s to Great Yarmouth (21-8-14).
As the 15 coaches left Cambridge yesterday for Great Yarmouth the sun came out and stayed out all day.  OAP’s from around Cambridge, escorted by 17 Labour Councillors and a band of volunteers, had a magnificent day.

It was so easy to see why Gerri is called the people’s Mayor as everyone wanted to talk to her and give her a hug.

The traditional toe dipping event took place after a sand friendly wheelchair was borrowed from Gt Yarmouth Council before everyone when for a meal and then the show on the pier.

An additional ‘adventure’ was added when the fire alarm caused a full evacuation of the pier and theatre. Fortunately there was no fire and the show resumed after about 30 minutes.
