The LD initiated a full consultation out to grant funded groups when in power last year. The local council budget, squeezed  year on year by central Con/Lib coalition, means savings of around 6 million to be found in the council over all. The discretionary funding pot ,which grants come under, needed to be reviewed.

LD s initiated a review which primarily asked groups receiving grants what impact different percentage cuts would have on their organisations. Either 10 , 20 or 30 percent cuts.

LD deliberately left the actual cycle of decision making and consultation outcome to post election June Community Services, ie. potential storm for the Labour Exec Arts, Recreation and Community.

The outcome of the consultation was groups being given a years notice that savings were needed to be found, there would be priority given to those groups dealing with members of our community most in need.

From the consultation ..groups rejected the idea of a gradual stepped approach to cuts saying it was easier to forward plan with one cut and Richard, with officers, made the decision of 25%. So not the top end 30% the LD were looking at!!

Cllr Richard Johnson has decided all grant applications are matched against the same criteria. Looking at how the money is used for those people most in need.

The recycling quote is from the 1990’s.  Labour started recycling and we used to be the leading Cambs Council – we are now equal last

The LibDems have slashed capital investment in environmental improvements

£1 billion is needed for transport, LibDem stated  £1.5m is not the solution! It’s an election sticking plaster!

95% of additional congestion is from new housing and jobs, not the A14!

The ConDem City Deal has yet to be delivered and its £100m to £500m is not the ‘last piece of the jigsaw’’ its another election sticking plaster and if it ever arrives it is only half a loaf/the sum needed!

And the living wage claims – well everyone knows this is a Labour promise!

Remember the LibDem pre-election promise about student fees?  Of course you do!

Labour doesn’t just talk about green issues, it gets right in there and makes a difference!

On housing:

The ConDem government’s NeoLiberal ideas reflect a ‘belief in free market economics and individualism … with absolute faith in the capacity of the market mechanism to solve all economic and social problems’ (Heywood 2012: 50).

When the current council apply this to local housing needs it’s not the residents of Romsey that they serve, they are only serving the developers. The market has not provided enough houses for Romsey residents or for students – it keeps them in competition and this in turn pushes up house prices and rents!

Labours suggestion for a council organised rental agency will regulate the market without having to put in place regulation!
