Cambridge has a growing student population and increasing number of hotels. Mike Sargeant is concerned that homes for local people are at the bottom of the queue.Picture1.png

“Too often, we appear to be in the hands of developers” says Mike. “I was shocked when the owners of the old Milton Road School site said they couldn’t make money out of building homes and that’s why they have proposed an Aparthotel. The City Council needs to make sure the Local Plan is adhered to when planning applications come in and ensure that areas designated for residential use are used for housing.

I am proud that Labour is committed to at least 40% affordable housing in new developments in Cambridge and will not allow the developers ‘buy off’ this requirement.

I will also look at how we can support local hotels and guest houses who are currently suffering a massive loss of business due to the construction of the Travelodge and Premier Inn.”
