Cambridge City Council Leader, Cllr Lewis Herbert welcomes the decision by Cambridgeshire County Council to end the £1 charge for Park and Ride sites.

Lewis says, “we welcome this decision as it will help cut congestion in Cambridge, a central aim of the Greater Cambridge Partnership, our three councils and of our wider community.”

The charge introduced in 2015, resulted in a 15% fall in usage. The County has asked the Greater Cambridge Partnership to fund half the free Park and Ride plan, and the City Council will support the proposal to 2020.

Lewis says, “we didn’t get the chance to say it was the wrong move before it happened, and it may not be possible to reverse fully the 15% fall in Park and Ride usage that followed, but we urgently need Park and Rides boosted ahead of more being built in the future.”
