I’ve served continuously on the City Council since May 1995, and am proud to represent residents in Cherry Hinton.  I came to Cherry Hinton in 1954 and have spent most of my life here, attending schools in Cambridge and studying at the Cambridge Arts & Technology College for four years, which is now ARU. I still sit as a magistrate on the Cambridge bench and have done since 2005. I’m married to Sandra, who was a nurse at the Rosie Maternity Hospital for 22 years, and we have four children. I worked for the National Health Service for over 18 years. I’m also president and a trustee of the Fulbourn Hospital Sports & Social Club and was a governor at Addenbrookes for 2 years.

I’ve organised several major fundraising activities for local charities including the Arthur Rank Hospice at Home scheme, St John’s Ambulance, Magpas, Press Relief and the Addenbrooke’s Breast Cancer Unit.

During my time as a councillor, I spent over 20 years on the Planning Committee and served as chairman for two years. I have been the mayor of Cambridge three times and had the honour of being the 800th Mayor of Cambridge. I’m active in my Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator for the area, and served as chair of the Cherry Hinton Resident’s Association (in fact, I’m still on the committee). I’m a member of the “Friends of Cherry Hinton Hall”. I’ve also been a governor of the Spinney School for over 13 years.

After many years of campaigning with the Cherry Hinton Resident’s Association for a community centre it has now been accomplished. I’m now a Director of Cherry Hinton Community Benefit Society that will administer this brand-new community hub for our village and this development will make a real difference to residents. The new building should start soon this year and we are all very excited that this will be such a positive asset for the people of Cherry Hinton.
