Our wonderful Mill Road Cemetery is a much treasured place for local residents to walk in. However, there are signs that it is suffering from the heavy use it has been getting during this winter lockdown.

Your Petersfield Councillors were able to get the main paths upgraded by the city council in a £150,000 project not long ago – but too many ad hoc muddy paths have developed during this especially wet winter. Walkers need to use the main surfaced paths and give the grass time to recover.

The bird nesting season has started and dog walkers are reminded that they should keep dogs on a lead during the next few months. This will significantly reduce the disturbance of nesting birds. Dogs are not allowed off the lead at any time of year in all other cemeteries across the city.

Notices about these issues were put up but unfortunately were torn down. New notices are being provided and will continue to be if necessary. The cemetery is too important for the actions of a few to be allowed to impede the enjoyment of the majority.
