To aid work of the new Chisholm Trail, a cycle and pedestrian route linking the north and south of Cambridge, part of Newmarket Road will be closed to all traffic – including cyclists and pedestrians – between 8pm on Friday 26 March and 6am on Friday 2 April. This is to allow for the construction of an underpass near the Leper Chapel to link the Ditton Meadows section of the trail with that of Coldhams Common.

The Greater Cambridge Partnership advises the public on the following diversion routes:

Motor Vehicles: A diversion route down Barnwell Road and Coldhams Lane will signposted while the affected section of Newmarket Road is closed.

Buses: The Citi 3 and Nos. 11 and 12 will be diverted. Bus stops on Newmarket Road between Coldhams Lane Junction and the McDonalds roundabout will be temporarily suspended. Stagecoach are to provide details of changes to services in due course. See www.stagecoachbus.com or @stagecoach_east on Twitter for updates.

Cyclists and Pedestrians: There will be a separate diversion route for cyclists and pedestrians across Coldhams Common, with a free shuttle service to be in operation while the closure is in effect. Abbey councillors have asked that the running of the shuttle bus be connected to the existing bus timetables to limit waiting times.
