Cambridge CLP has joined Daniel Zeichner MP in congratulating Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner on their recent election as the new Leader and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.

Keir and Angela, nominated as Cambridge’s choice for the leadership at GC earlier this year,  have both visited the city on a number of occasions, Angela most recently in February when she spoke to members in a packed Alex Wood Hall.  Keir has also been very supportive of Daniel’s campaign for re-election last year and came to Cambridge to support him on the doorsteps.

CLP chair, Jocelynne Scutt welcomed the news;

“With Keir and Angela’s election as Leader and Deputy Leader Labour has a really solid, effective partnership that will be able to take the party forward into the next election and beyond.  Keir has already been taking a strong lead since the start of the coronavirus outbreak, calling for the income guarantees people need – and better support for health and social care workers.

Angela’s record of and commitment to tackling inequality really chimes with our councillors’ work supporting Cambridge’s vulnerable residents.

I know some CLP members’s votes went elsewhere, but I’m looking forward to us all working with a strong, united and effective leadership team to deliver the Labour government our city, and the country as a whole, needs.”
