Councillor Anna Smith, the City’s Executive Councillor for Streets and Open Spaces, joined Cambridge City Council’s Enforcement Team to highlight the current flytipping campaign. As part of her shift, Councillor Smith visited a public recycling centre in Newmarket Road where a range of trade and non-recyclable household waste had been dumped.

Councillor Smith said: “It was a real insight into the valuable work that our enforcement teams do to help improve the environment right across the city. There can be no excuse for flytipping and I urge everyone to dispose of any rubbish over the Christmas period responsibly and report any flytipping they see.”

Councillor Smith added: “I saw many examples of flytipping including the contamination? of domestic recycling bins by commercial food waste and the dumping of household items and waste. In every case this meant going through the bags by hand for evidence. We take environmental crime very seriously and our teams work hard to get the evidence we need to take action against offenders whether they are individuals or companies. As our campaign says: Flytipping is a crime; Report it, Stop it.”
