Councillor Ben Bradnack, Petersfield
21 Riverside, Cambridge, CB5 8HL Phone and fax: 01223 570813 Email: ben.bradnack@cambridge.gov.uk
Ben Bradnack is a Labour councillor for Petersfield ward. He has been a councillor since 1992, and is deputy leader of the Labour Group. Ben's particular interests are community development and local participation. He is a former teacher and was head of General Education at Long Road College between 1980 and 1991. He taught (amongst others) History, Drama, English, Politics and Health Ed and remains a passionate opponent of the examinations industry.
Ben's outside interests include theatre, sports (only watching these days), walking, friends, education. He is a governor at St Matthew's Primary School and Cambridge Regional College.
Ben says, "The close proximity of Petersfield ward to the city centre means that Petersfield experiences pressures, sometimes conflicting, of a residential area with a substantial number of small commercial outlets which struggle to survive. Car parking, public drinking and relatively high levels of crime have been significant issues in recent years. The planning process can sometimes resolve these problems, but balancing conflicting interests depends to a considerable extent on the vitality and vigilance of the local community which Labour councillors seek to foster."
Ben leads for Labour on Customer Services and Resources issues.

Councillor Kevin Blencowe, Petersfield
26 Petworth Street, Cambridge CB1 2LY. Tel 07914 700602 Email kevin.blencowe@cambridge.gov.uk
KKevin Blencowe is city councillor for Petersfield and also the Labour spokesperson on housing and planning matters. He is vice-chair of the East Area Committee.
Kevin says, "I have represented Petersfield as a city councillor for the last 14 years, and it has been a privilege to work with the local community to make our area a better place in which to live.
Having been a youth worker and a member of staff at Cambridge YMCA for many years I continue to strive to improve the range of activities and facilities provided for our younger citizens. I help run a community bingo club two evenings a week, support our local over 50s club at Cherry Trees on St Matthew's Street and am on the board of the Folk Museum. I am also a governor at St Matthew's Primary School, where I started as a youth worker many years ago.
I was 30 years old when I first became a councillor, quite young at the time! I have always been an active sportsman and still play football and cricket; I helped save cricket on Parkers Piece a couple of years ago. As a teenager I had trials for Tottenham Hotspur FC. I am currently chairman of the Cambridge YMCA football club which plays in the Cambridge Sunday morning league."

Councillor Lucy Walker, Petersfield
69 Glisson Road, Cambridge, CB1 2HG Phone: 01223 367615, Email: lucy.walker@cambridge.gov.uk
Lucy Walker was elected as a Labour councillor in Petersfield in 2007. She says, "I have lived and brought up my children in Cambridge for the last 18 years and I am committed to improving our local communities and pressing for resources to enhance the quality of our lives.
Local government is the point of delivery of national policies and it is important to ensure that the city as a whole, and our ward, genuinely benefits from a Labour government. Although the city is prosperous, there are pockets of poverty and disadvantage and we need to develop and maintain vital local facilities and services".
Lucy works closely with her fellow councillors and local residents on community safety issues and protection and enhancement of open space and play areas. She says, "Petersfield is one of the most densely occupied wards in the city. We must continue to monitor developments, protect our open spaces and ensure that all city services work as well as possible. That includes finding workable solutions to the bin-cluttered pavements, enabling residents to claim grants to help insulate and adapt their homes, making sure our parks and play areas are well managed, and helping Mill Road remain a successful shopping street which everyone can enjoy".
"I am also concerned about the lack of young people’s activities in the city and work with the Labour team to press for more resources for teenagers. It is also vital that we tackle the lack of affordable housing, traffic congestion and pollution, and ensure that all new developments are supported by a coherent and sustainable transport plan with effective public transport."
Lucy represents Cambridge on the Urban Commission of the Local Government Association and has recently been nominated as a Cam Conservator. She is a member of the Co-operative Party and the Cambridge Cycling Campaign.
