Gerri Bird, East Chesterton
5 Grieve Court, Cambridge CB4 1FR Phone: 01223 425595 Email: gerribird@sky.com
Gerri is one of your local Labour candidates for East Chesterton in the 2010 City Council elections. A tireless campaigner for the rights of disabled people, Gerri works for the local charity Disability Cambridgeshire, formerly Directions Plus, for disabled / older people and their carers. In this capacity she met with the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in 2003 and has since personally lobbied several other ministers to campaign for needs to be matched with resources.
Concerned about the rise of antisocial behaviour on the estate where she lives, Gerri helped set up an Action Group, of which she is vice-chair. The association has now been running for four years, working with the community, the police and other agencies, and Gerri's work has been recognised by a 'Respect, Taking A Stand' award.
Gerri is on the service committee for the Cambridge Housing Association, a board member of Hundred Housing Association, where she has set up an Asian disability group, a board member of the Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service, Chair of the Kings Hedges Anti-Social Behaviour Group and a member of the Cambridge Equalities Panel

Dan is your other local Labour candidate for East Chesterton in the 2010 City Council elections. He has lived in Cambridge all his life and was educated at state schools in the city. His grandparents live in East Chesterton. Dan currently works for Marshall Aerospace as a third year electrical apprentice and is delighted that they have decided to keep their jobs within the city. As well as being a member of the Fabian society, he is a member of UNITE and volunteers as a shop steward at Marshall. Dan says, "I stand for a sense of community. I believe people have the right to live in areas that are cleaned regularly and I deplore the Lib Dem city council's neglect of our streets. I am passionate about affordable social housing for Cambridge's inhabitants and strongly support the Labour Party view that all new developments should contain at least 40% social housing."
