Councillor Mike Todd-Jones, Arbury

2 Tedder Way, Cambridge Phone: 01223 353937 Email: mjtoddjones@yahoo.co.uk

Mike Todd-Jones has lived in Arbury for over 40 years and went to local schools. He studied politics at Newcastle University, worked in the NHS for 16 years and is now a librarian at Cambridge University's Chemistry Department. Mike has campaigned on behalf of people in Arbury most of his adult life and represented Arbury as a councillor from 2002-2004.

Mike comments, "I have always believed strongly in the need for social justice, wanted to tackle inequality and disadvantage, be an advocate for those least able to help themselves, and promote collective and community values. These values have found their political home in the Labour Party, the Co-operative Party, and through trade union (UNISON) activism. I am a passionate supporter of our public services and have fought for decent wages and pensions and better workplace rights."

Mike belongs to Friends of the Earth, the Campaign Against the Arms Trade, and CND. Locally, Mike is a member of the Arbury Neighbourhood Community Project Steering Group.

Mike launched his "Arbury Survey" in June 2006 and has so far called on residents in over 50 streets, taking up numerous issues with the council, police and City Homes North. He has helped many residents with housing problems, worked on local environment improvements, traffic and parking issues, and helped address problems of anti-social behaviour. Mike says, "I will continue to campaign on the issues that matter to people in Arbury, ensuring that local people are listened to by service providers such as the City Council, the County Council, and the Police. I could represent Arbury even more effectively if I was elected as a councillor again - in the 2007 elections I lost by only 12 votes to the Lib Dems so it's really close in Arbury!"
