Student Voice

For a century, the Cambridge Universities Labour Club (CULC) has been one of the largest and most active political societies at Cambridge and then Anglia Ruskin universities. Mirroring the evolution of the national party, CULC has gone through many shapes and sizes, and many Labour politicians cut their teeth in politics while students here at Cambridge - from Hugh Dalton to Andy Burnham. And while the Tories and Liberal Democrats pursue their disastrous policy regime, CULC enjoys record levels of participation, enthusiasm, and activity from students of all backgrounds.

CULC has a long and proud history of campaigning both in the town of Cambridge and in the university among students. In addition to campaigning for local Labour candidates, we have campaigned on a broad set of issues that matter to students and working people - including marches against £9,000 tuition fees and to save the Cambridge bursary as well as protests against cuts to EMA and essential public services.

In addition, CULC offers some of the very best speaker events, socials, dinners, debates, and women's and LGBT events in the universities. Recently, we have been proud to welcome peers such as Lord Andrew Adonis and Lord John Eatwell; MPs such as Margaret Hodge, Jon Cruddas, and Emily Thornberry; and imminent academics such as Professor Andrew Gamble and Professor John Shepherd. We have also taken trips to Parliament and sent members to Labour Students events, and CULC was the first university Labour Club in Britain to officially affiliate with the Co-Operative Party
