Bramblefields saved

We would like to thank those who replied to the  City Council’s consultation on the County Council’s proposal to create a new access path to the Station through Bramblefields Nature Reserve. It was very important to us that ybramblefield.pngour views informed any decision made. As your Labour run City Council we listen to the results on consultations unlike the Liberal Democrats who forced the vulnerable Water Lane residents out of their homes been though they all asked to stay.

The clear majority of all replies were against the proposal, especially from those residents who live next to the reserve. This confirmed the many views that have been given to us on the doorstep or at meetings over the last couple of years. The chief concerns were that creating an access through Bramblefields would open up the streets around it for commuter parking once the station opened and that it would be determined to the future of the quiet and peaceful nature reserve with calls in the long term for wider paths and lighting that would not be appropriate for Bramblefields.

Even though the new path will not be going ahead, the money that the City Council secured from the County for Bramblefields through the planning process for the new station will mean our planned ecological improvements will be made.

Bramblefields is a special place for East Chesterton and we are delighted that it will remain so. We will also be ensuring that there are excellent pedestrian and cycle access routes to the new station and keeping an eye on any parking problems that might still happen in the roads close by once it happens.

Thank you again for your help in making this important decision.
