I have lived in Chesterton for over 20 years and my children went to our local schools at Milton Road and Chesterton Community College. I have been involved in many community issues and projects, whether that’s as a school governor or a resident. Together with a great team of governors and teachers, in 2007 I led the development, opening and later expansion of a new community primary school in Cambridge, and I also helped found Chesterton Festival.
I am particularly interested in planning, housing and maintaining the special character of Cambridge as well as tackling the inequality that is evident in some communities in the city.
I am standing for the City Council this May because I want to help keep West Chesterton a special place to live. It’s important that we get the plans for changes to Milton Road right, and that we continue to fight poor planning applications in the ward like the recent plans for the Tivoli pub. Mitcham’s Corner has improved greatly in the last few years and we need to make sure that continues and the hard work of residents in helping shape the vision for it is taken forward.
I hope you will give me your support on 3 May. If elected to the City Council I will work with your other City and County Labour councillors to stand up for Cambridge and for West Chesterton.
